There is no simple answer to the question. The following factors must be considered: 1. The entire body of pool water should preferably be "filtered" twice a day. Depending on the pump motor size this can normally be achieved in 8 - 12 hours. 2. Warmer water is usually put to more use and therefore requires more filtration. 3. Pump motors are normally rated for continues running and therefore one run time per day is advisable. Multiple starts per day may require earlier maintenance of the pump motor. In short it is generally suggested that domestic pool pumps run for 10-12 hours per day during summer and about half as much during winter (temperature dependant). Where possible the pump should run during the warmest hours of the day. For energy saving purposes there are now variable speed pumps available. These pumps are a more substantial initial investment however they will minimise energy useage and lead to considerable savings over time.

It takes as much as 4 weeks for marble plaster to "set" hard. During this time it is not adviseable to to add salt to the pool if a saltwater chlorinator is fitted. Suction side cleaners such Kreepy or Zodiac Baracuda should not be used during this time as they may damage the soft plaster before it has time to set hard. Robotic cleaners such as Dolphins may though be used from a much earlier stage.

Sta blue is safe to be used in all pool types including salt water pools. This product will enhance the effect of the chlorine produced by your salt water chlorinator by acting both as an algae preventative measure and floculent (i.e. enhance water clarity). Regular use of Sta Blue every 4 - 6 weeks will simplify your pool maintenance regime.

The product of choice should be "Green Out" and a dosage of approximately 1 litre for your pool size will suffice. It is adviseable to wait at least one hour after the addition of an algaecide before swimming. It is important to allow the product to be circulated throughout the pool (properly diluted) before using the pool.

You do not say whether you are manually dosing the pool with chlorine or whether you have a saltwater chlorinator attached?

So here goes -

1. If the problem is high chlorine levels - reduce the amount of chlorine being added by reducing the quantity used per dose if it is a granular product.

2. reducing the number of nubs cut off or simply dialling back on the floater if it is twist control

3. turn down the saltwater chlorinator to a lower level(if fitted).

If the problem is low chlorine levels - it could be due to;

1. under dosing - heated pools require much more chlorine (50% more for every 5deg C rise in temperature)

2. cutting off too few nubs or not dialling open enough on floaters

3.turn up the chlorinator ( or perhaps chlorinator not sized for heated pool)

4. If the pool is not "stabilised" it will loose chlorine to the sunlight when the cover is not on. Have the stabiliser level tested by you local pool pro and adjust as necessary.

There are many different brands and models of pool timers. they all operate differently and have different mechanisms for setting the time. Please advise the make and model of timer or send us a clear image of the timer and we we will endeavour to provide you with the relevant information.
